Because it destroys the character and fabric of neighborhoods. It eventually pushes people out and replaces it with an artificial interpretation of the original neighborhood. Ironically, what attracted those yuppies to that neighborhood in the first place is permanently destroyed.

What was really attractive was the price, and the hope that prices were moving upward.
