I will tell you in complete honesty, and with a completely straight face, that the only people I was in contact with during the election period, who I ever heard that from, was my liberal friends, who said it was time for a black man to be President, and that’s why he was getting their vote.

I suspect they had other reasons for voting for him, as well. But that was the biggie.

I could not and did not argue with them on that particular point. From my viewpoint at the time, I simply would have preferred it to be a different black man, rather than Obama.

I think that if Obama wasn’t a respected and dedicated Democrat, your friends would probably have thought twice despite his race. Actually, there wasn’t much sunlight between Obama and Hillary. I think with Hillary, she was more conservative and older. Obama offered some young blood, along with everything else. I started out as a Hillary supporter, and was ok switching over.
