I’m not sure that the cuts to education are at fault. MY personal view is that it goes back to Nixon and Agnew and the Southern Strategy. Consider that under Kennedy, we talked about having an Administration staffed by “The Best And The Brightest”, and by the end of that decade the Vice President was talking about ‘an effete corps of intellectual snobs’. The Southern Strategy is all about resentment, and for the ignorant boobs whose ancestors were duped into fighting a war so rich men could own black people, there’s nothing that stirs up as much resentment as someone who knows more than they do.

So, the GOP set about devaluing expertise, education, knowledge and critical thought. In the end, they managed to devalue reality itself.

They came to value ideological purity over any sort of intellectual skills, candidates like Sarah Palin, Rick Perry and, Michelle Bachmann are living proof of that.

The Tea Party has taken the Litmus test of ideological purity and turned it into an acid bath
