I think you nailed it. They supported the terrorists until 9-11, that cleaned up there act a bit. Then, both Bush and Obama may have decided to cover their asses on the previous bad actions for various reasons.
I personally don’t care how embarrassing the terrorist links are to the royal family, the truth should come out.
