I thought he came out some years ago. I’m only surprised by an “official” statement since it’s nothing he’s ever tried to hide as far as I know.

It was an open secret, he never denied it but refused to bring it up either, even when it was relevant. I can see it both ways and often wished he’d forced certain bigots to deal acknowledge him as a gay person, however if he’d mentioned it in the following interview with a Pastor Worley supporter the woman probably would have cut the interview off before damaging her cause by demonstrating such an obscene level of pig ignorant dumbshittery:
