This goes to what I was saying yesterday. Once the 2006 slide occurred in that area, new construction or rebuilding in the vicinity should have been prohibited due to slide risks. That wasn’t done, and permits were extended even beyond 2006.

And that it happened despite a report warning of the slide risk? Nuts. Guess everyone thought that the slide wouldn’t happen to them, or in their lifetime. So it wasn’t their problem.

Well, now there are dozens upon dozens missing and at least 14 dead. How many of those could have been saved had construction been prohibited in that vicinity?
