If the Trump campaign is indeed writing off Ohio, Florida and No. Carolina 30 days out from the election, isn’t this basically admitting that the whole thing is a lost cause? Especially as OH has been, AFAICT, pretty much, at best/worst a toss-up in polling (?). How many more/other “battleground” states are there for Trump to concentrate on? IN? MO? WI? This does indeed smell of scam - even though (IIRC - correction will be graciously accepted) unspent campaign funds are supposed to be refunded/applied to outstanding debts…

Yes, pretty much. That leads to my speculation as to whether the Trump campaign has some kind of internal polling that points in the direction of a debacle.

And yes, it reeks of a typical Trumpian scam, though like you, I thought unspent campaign funds were to be refunded or used to pay off any outstanding debts.
