I have to assume that AZ voters are okay with such legislation or they would stop electing Republicans.

Arizona is a particularly gerrymandered state.

Moreover, these types of laws bigots conservatives try to pass have two aims:

a) Deplete the resources of civil libertarian groups which fight against the laws. State governments have unlimited (essentially) tax money to fight each and every case as far as they can.

b) The goal is to overturn Roe v Wade. With thousands of courts across the land, all it takes is one of these laws to slip through.

This bill in a different form already passed the Ariz. senate. They will need to reconcile the bills somehow (or one house accepts the other’s) to get it in front of the state governor.
