Agreed. I’ve seen DeNiro’s Sonny. Too crazy. Caan’s Sonny had an excellent subtlety to him that DeNiro’s screen test seemed to lack.

Something I’m sure that DeNiro took to heart when he later played Jimmy Burke in Goodfellas; slick and friendly, but always a smoldering inferno under the surface waiting to explode.
