These are people who already thought he was awesome for being a douchebag. Not in spite of it, even, but really, actually, for being a douchebag.

There are still some fields in life where being an unbelievable douche is the best way to gain the respect of your peers. I’ve never quite seen anything like Modern American Conservatism, though, where it’s not just a great way to gain respect, but absolutely necessary and central to belonging.

Never seen anything quite like it since the fifth grade, I should say.
