netanyahoo’s declaration that there will never be a palestinian state as long as he is in office rips the mask of deceit off of the likud party

but it does much more than that

not only will all the years i spend defending the good intentions of the israeli government in regard to negotiations with the palestinian people are now made to look ridiculous, but much more importantly

the good name of the jewish people is dragged through the mud as we are exposed as liars

and, there will never, never, be true security for the state of israel

and all this just to save netanyahoo’s lying ass when got desperate that he might not be re-elected to the premiership

I would hope that (rational) people would be able to distinguish between a particular Israel politician or political party, the Israeli people, and Jewish people in general (diaspora). That said, his comments give lots of ammunition to people who are anti-Zionist, not to mention antisemites.

The first thing that came to my mind was how people often say, “Well, the Gazans elected Hamas, so even if they didn’t all vote for them, a majority still chose them freely.” Netanyahu obviously isn’t Hamas, but mark my words that argument will be trotted out: “The Israelis elected Netanyahu, so even if they didn’t all vote for him, a majority still chose him freely.” Ditto for claims that the other side doesn’t want peace.
