re: #391 DangerMan

a little musing about “send them back”

texas:

why do i bring this up?
- it’s the line from above - “others can trace their ancestry back a long way”
- i left out the other part
- they were on that land when it was Mexico
- and when texas declared its independence
- and when texas became a state
- some of them have *always* been on that land

Eva Longoria’s family has been in San Antonio since before the Mayflower set sail (first immigrant ancestor was 1603. One of her ancestors got a 4000-acre land grant from the King of Spain in 1767 (before Mexico was its own country). When the Mexican-American war ended with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (1848), the borders moved and the Longoria family went from living in Mexico to living in the independent country of Texas, then a few years later they were suddenly living in the United States, then the Confederate States, then the United States again, without moving an inch.
