I’m afraid I must agree with Andrew Sullivan, that Bill Clinton did an excellent job at the Democratic National Convention defending President Obama’s record, and President Obama could have done a better job defending his own record tonight.

I admire Obama’s seriousness, and I’m appalled by Romney’s constant flip-flops and lies. But I wish Obama had shown more energy, more passion. Strangely enough, compared with Obama’s flat tone, one could actually say that at least Romney CARED enough to go out there and lie (a bizarre sentiment, to emphasize the point).

In the Democratic National Convention last month, both the President and the First Lady, and former President Clinton, really showed that they cared, and I think that greatly affected the presidential race. I think they need to show us AGAIN and AGAIN that they really care. I hope it’s not too late.

Sullivan was pretty harsh tonight (not too surprising given the source, but still): “How is Obama’s closing statement so fucking sad, confused and lame? He choked. He lost. He may even have lost the election tonight. “

I agree he choked and he lost the debate. The election? Hardly.
