The shutdown was perpetrated by the GOP. John Boehner admitted as much way back in July 2013, when they had a handshake deal with Democrats on a budget, but the TP extortionists demanded nothing but a delay/destroy Obamacare scorched earth policy, and that’s what Boehner went with.

They failed, and it led to a shutdown.

A shutdown that affected more than National Parks and the monuments in DC.

It affected provision of care for seniors, and a whole host of other functions of government that people don’t pay much attention to except when it goes away.

Now, we’re about to get a farm bill deal, one that cuts food stamps, but not as drastically as the GOP demanded, but which also cut subsidies as well.

That’s taken as a positive, even though the food costs for people aren’t declining. It just means less food to be purchased by people who need the safety net at any time.

I know quite a few people who either outright blame Obama and the Dems for the shutdown, or Magic Balance Fairy the whole thing. Shit, I know a few that were calling for Obama to be impeached over it.

I wonder if Boehner, et. al., were counting on the American voter’s general inability to grasp complex issues to at least take some heat off of the GOP. From where I’m sitting, it seemed to work.
