There’s a reason that his own lawyers had a 2-man rule when meeting with him. He could never keep a story straight and he’d lie, mischaracterize, obfuscate, or make other outlandish statements, so they needed two lawyers in the room at these meetings.

It was a defense against Trump’s own statements, mental defects, or memory issues, or whatever you want to ascribe his actions/behaviors to.

This is more of that.
