We used to call I5 the drag strip. I once made it from Claremont to Oakland in 4-1/2 hours. I tried to beat that once, but ended up at the courthouse in Coalinga for a very expensive ticket.

ok i was a 19 yo amateur back in ‘76
clocked at 86 on the pennsylvania turnpike
i was really closer to 95 but slammed the brakes probably a second before the side of the road radar gun nailed us.
1976. nationwide 55 mph, so 30+ over the limit was a big deal
trooper would not trust me to mail in the payment.
patted me down, put me in his car and drove me to ‘the court’
