The 2004 Democratic field is a shining beacon of sanity in a time when the base of the party was consumed by Bush loathing.
That loathing did bleed over into the candidates to a degree. Obama’s big advantage was he ran with a positive message, promoting himself and his ideas. Most of the pack ran on anti- Bush platforms instead of pro Dem platforms. That’s the same reason I see no chance of a Republican candidate winning against Obama. They’re all too full of populist rage and are very short on real world solutions.
