Yes, it is my understanding that the person has to be clearly in the house uninvited.

Driveways, front steps, outside a window do not count as imminent danger.

I’m pretty sure that in the state of Texas, you can actually shoot someone who’s on your property, but Texas is the only state with that law to the best of my knowledge. The Vancouver, WA shooter has been charged with second-degree murder, which jibes with my dad told me all those years ago.
