Stock buybacks are another way that workers get screwed. Instead of passing on the profits to employees, the companies buy back company stock, which benefits a few shareholders at the expense of everyone else.

You’ve got Apple sitting on a hoard of cash that would make Smaug grin with delight. If they upped their wages to every last employee down to the idiots at the Genius bar, it might reduce that hoard by a few hundred million, but the ripple effect would be huge across the economy. And other companies might do the same in order to retain workers.
