re: #427 DaddyG
You must have missed a few weeks of conversation here.
For my part this is why it matters that a Mosque be allowed two city blocks from the World Trade Center site:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
That and the fact that encouraging American Muslims to build and worship freely anywhere they want is a huge message of the benefits of a free democratic society to the wannabe dictators of the world (Taliban, Al Queda, Wahabbists, etc.)
I don’t know about you but I’ve always found the moral, ethical and legal high ground a nice place to stand.
I have no problem with their Constitutional right to build it. But I sure do have the right to protest their building of it.
