Note to Michaels, predictions are just that. What a dickhead of hte highest order though. I am glad the hurricane wasn’t as bad as some expected but that shouldn’t mean that we should ignore forecasts and shrug off global warming either.

It was about 3 times as many fatalities as Michaels predicted.

I suppose it’s been studied very carefully and we really do have to expect more, or more severe, hurricanes. It’s a bit counterintuitive, I must confess. More heat waves, obvious. Higher sea levels, obvious. Crop failures, obvious. More droughts? Sort of obvious, your evaporation outruns even slightly higher rainfall, let alone reduced rainfall.

But storms feed off temperature differentials, and the biggest temperature rise is expected at or near the poles. So on the face of it, you’d not expect this hurricane consequence.


This prediction had better be right, or its failure will become the premier denialist talking point.
