re: #414 Higgs Boson’s Mate

My optometrist found both cataracts and macular degeneration so it was off to my doctor to get a referral to an ophthalmologist to see what can be done and when we can do it. I turn 67 this year so neither condition is surprising. The only bummer is that I’ve stopped surfing until I get a full run down and advice from the ophthalmologist. IOLs will take care of the cataracts, the macular degeneration can’t be reversed, but it may be treatable. We’ll see…
or not.

I had to go to an ophthalmologist who specializes in difficult cases. Also had to go to a corneal specialist to make sure all would be OK with the surgery—something about thin corneal walls—elongated something-or-other. My doc was great—said he liked to make sure people didn’t have too great expectations about results beforehand—I told him I was the opposite, and would be fine even if I had to wear contacts after surgery—as long as I could see! (I also turn 67 this year.)

He did the worst eye first—just in case there was any problem. Then did the better eye about 6 weeks later.
