Hawley could have run in the primary, but from where I sit, if it isn’t Trump, it’s DeathSantis. He’s got all the right credentials as a front-line culture warrior. He’s got national recognition, thanks to the way he’s driven the state of Florida into the ocean. If Trump does get convicted of a crime that disqualifies him from holding office, the throne is his for the taking. The REAL problem here isn’t who we get to replace Trump in the eyes of the fascist right; it’s the fact that the rest of the right wing will vote in lock step with the fascists, for no other reason than because Republicans are the Party of Christ in the eyes of way too many Christians and church leaders. What we really need to do is turn the tide the other way, to divorce religious identity and political identity, but the Republicans and the fundamentalist Christians have spent way too long building up that combination.

And in her deluded mind, Nikki Haley thinks she’ll be a big contender.

While discussing a new Iran deal to be made under the Biden administration, the former South Carolina governor and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations told the audience Monday at the Christians United for Israel Summit in Washington that “the next president will shred it on her first day in office.”

After a long standing applause, Haley added, “Just saying, sometimes it takes a woman.”
