That’s a very important point. The only former presidents that have had anything to say that anybody wanted to listen to in recent decades (10, maybe?) were Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, and the character assassination they’d been subject to muted their voices, so to speak.

Obama’s been through all the (unprecedented) character assassination. There’s nothing further they can do. He’s a young man, and a very good writer. I think he’s going to be an important voice for a long time—and no longer hobbled by the political restraints he has been while in office.
