Source familiar tells NBC that Justice Kennedy had been in negotiations with the Trump team for months over Kennedy’s replacement. Once Kennedy received assurances that it would be Kavanaugh (his former law clerk) Kennedy felt comfortable retiring - @LACaldwellDC & @frankthorp

So, Kennedy was negotiating his replacement with Trump while a number of Trump’s decisions were in front of the court. So, what kind of side deals might have been made between Trump and Kennedy to make this happen? What if Kennedy threw some decisions Trump’s way to seal the deal? Does it look like that’s not a fair question to ask at this point?
