The lefties still give the non violence thing lip service but they’ve pretty much given up on the concept. It takes discipline and restraint, too much work. I also think the alliance between lefties and anarchists has had an effect.

Not to over simplify but I see two kinds of leftists espousing nonviolence; the embarrassingly naive and the honorably committed.
Personally, I think we are more often than not caught in a situation where all of the options result in some “violence” whether it be to a person or object directly or indirectly. It is usually a matter of “harm reduction” and different people calculate this differently based on different values.
