I just think you’re really doing a disservice by treating Trump as Generic Republican. Do NOT get me wrong. His predecessors were all awful to various degrees but this administration really is uniquely awful. I’m merely stating Trump stands out even among right wing assholes.

Trump stands out only in that he is illiterate. In GW Bush’s case, when the anti-immigrant right put pressure on him (in his second term, when he could not stand again for election), he caved.
