I also can’t help but think some would have been concerned that having Obama there would have egged on some groups to try something spectacular to either get at him or disrupt the event by creating mayhem. Fewer people would want to get at the Prime Minister of say, Albania or Belgium. It’s the same reason they attacked the Trade Towers instead of some Berlin skyscraper-more attention and a bigger target.

If the President had attended, it would have flipped the RWNJs instantly to the anti-Charlie mode. They would have dragged out every obnoxious cartoon the mag had ever produced as an example of Obama’s ‘endorsement’.
