Believe it or not, there were once substantial Jewish populations in Appalachia; most left over time, but a few stayed behind and sort of went “native.” My family all twang something fierce, are clannish and quarrelsome, and, except in matters of diet and worship, we are largely indistinguishable from our neighbors.
