re: #37 The War TARDIS

I hate saying this, but Trump had a scintilla of a point on Iraq as a nation. Largely formed as lines on a map during Sykes-Picot, the the area has only been united by outside powers and larger empires.

Iraq was always going to fall apart. If Saddam died, or when we left.

Of course, Trump loses all points for not realizing that any successor states will need oil for the economy.

He’s right about how Iraq was put together, but his point isn’t original. Heck Joe Biden pointed it out years ago. But that formation was almost 100 years ago, and people’s feelings do change. But Trump doesn’t notice such things.

It’s also worthy noting that whatever people think of Joe Biden’s partition plan for Iraq that he advanced some years back, at least the old screwball was proposing a political solution to a political problem. Trump is deliberately ignoring the regional politics to focus on ‘entertaining’ his supporters with visions of the Hostile Other being blown up. That this actually happening would promptly cause those same supporters to take a hit in their wallets is not mentioned.
