Fahrenheit based his scale on some convoluted reasoning, which nowadays makes no real sense.
Not entirely: his 100° was his estimate of body temperature and 0° is the temperature at which a saturated salt solution freezes. So not entirely random, like an inch being the size of three barleycorns, but yeah, it is just what I grew up with and how I still think…balmy upper 70’s…chilly 40’s, etc…
