Probably. The thing that strikes me about Corrie is how terribly ordinary she was. She wanted to fix the world, and no one in her circle of friends and family and teachers told her that she was getting into bed with evil people who didn’t care about her safety.

I knew a lot of people in college who could have ended up like that. They were strident and arrogant and misinformed, but they weren’t bad people.

Think about the young people who followed the Nazis, or Stalinists, or Mao’s people—out of that exploitable yearning to be the leaders, save the world, create a new reality.

Absolutely. Idealism can lead to dark places, especially for the naive and inexperienced.
