I think the true terror for an older established cat is a kitten being introduced to the house.

My first cat, Puck, was taken to visit my brother for Thanksgiving. At the time he was living in an apartment with with his wife and their adopted feral cat, Byll. Byll, was a bit overweight, sociable, but not a lap cat. He was promptly terrorized for three days by an energetic and playful fuzzball.

After the nth sudden kitten ambush Byll decided to retaliate and Puck fled under the nearby ottoman. Byll settled in for a siege and was pawing under the ottoman from the edge. Meanwhile, Puck had gone out the other end of the ottoman. Byll’s revenge was brought short by a kamikaze kitten attack on his butt from over the top of the ottoman.

The final straw was the human laughter, so she slunk from the room in embarrassment.
