True, I wasn’t factoring in the environmental impacts. Which is sad in my case, since I live in SoCal just 20 miles from the beaches.

My initial point was that it’s silly to select Calif. alone for criticism on this issue, when these kinds of disputes happen everywhere.

Oh, right. That’s true. I guess California bashing is in vogue now. Guess it has been for a while. California has the best beach access in the country as well as some of the best beaches. Open, no badges required, etc. Ask anyone that has lived on the Jersey Shore and had to deal with fences and the constant harassment by beach guards.
