It worked well for us when our groups were 40 - 50 chimps, and had some advantage when our tribes were 40 - 100 people, but it sure as shit screws us up now.

Over the years, I’ve noticed that “civilization” is just a shiny veneer on old instincts and habits. We tell ourselves that we’re different than our ancestors, but we’ve just found more advanced and clean methods of meeting the same goals. We spill a lot less blood, but the same instincts are still there, under the surface.
