The author, Suzanne Collins, made the point repeatedly that stands on conviction, however necessary, can have dreadful consequences and that nobody escapes war unscathed.
It doesn’t have to be war in our definition of it. Parks, Lewis, MLK, Malcolm X… they paid varied prices for each taking a stand.
The people who signed the Declaration of Independence knew that they were signing their own death warrants. Many of them fell into obscurity after the war; some saw their lives and fortunes destroyed.
