Not sure why you’re calling Mike Bloomberg a hippie given that he is a moderate Republican (which probably makes him one of your favorite politicians), but I agree that he is silly (both because he is a Republican and because of this measure). I think that given the choice of limiting customers’ choice and making customers’ choice informed the government should strive for the latter as much as possible. So in this case they should not prohibit selling of soda in any cups, they can sell it by gallon if they want. It’s just big cups should have both text and visual information about potential consequences of abusing soda. Very visual information, if you know what I’m talking about. Same with cigarette packs, raw milk, etc. After that? Buy all you want.
