Our system in California is definitely an outlier (and a remnant of the progressive era) - completely nonpartisan elections at the local level, meaning no R’s or D’s for city council, mayor, or county wide positions - and now blanket primaries for everything from Assembly through the Governorship. The only traditional partisan primary we have anymore is the presidential primary. I’m probably going to ask for a Libertarian ballot in the primary, since I am guessing that Clinton will have secured the nomination by then.
