Federal law governs hand gun ownership. The city licenses gun clubs and ranges. So while it is still legal to own a gun, you are not allowed to use it anywhere in the city. The mayor of Toronto is campaigning to have the federal gov’t ban all legal handguns.

Did I mention that of the 62 murders in Toronto committed with guns in 2008, only 2 of them involved licensed gun owners & their legally owned guns?

Did I also mention, that Toronto has a very low homicide rate? The 3 northern territories, and Saskatchewan and Manitoba have much higher homicide rates.
