The name Syed Farook is Middle Eastern/Arabic. Although I do find the spelling very odd. So perhaps like others have said, it means the individual isn’t from the Middle East but from other parts of Asia where there are large amounts of Muslims.

He looks Desi, so either Indian or Pakistani or Bengali to me.
