Well, the original story doesn’t really mention the exact reason. So later commentators (Ezekiel being among them) have different takes on the issue.
But yeah, there’s a contradiction here, if one is a literalist fundie.
Eh, being a literalist fundamentalist means never having to acknowledge or accept the contradictions in the book. “God said it, I believe it, that settles it,” as they say.
