Well look at that Grosse Point. Another friend in art college lived right on the edge of Grosse Point just off Jefferson.

I remember going up to the Motor City area to visit my school buddies in July of ‘73. I remember them driving me down by the area where the RenCen would be built. I stayed at the one friends Grosse Point home.

At that time the old Ford Estate was still standing and I couldn’t get over how freakin’ big it was and how far back off the road it was. That was a front yard!

Since I love old brick buildings, Detroit absolutely amazed me. The grand old homes from right around the Belle Isle area up Grand Blvd and that whole area.

Then in 1993 I went up because I would go to the CART races out on the isle and a friend (African American dude) and I drove up around that area and we were stunned by the buildings with roofs falling in, and people still living in a portion of a stately old home. I remember one about 6 story brick apartment building where one whole side had caved and fallen and it just sat there.

At one intersection, my buddy said…let’s get out of here. He was scared. If he was scared I was prepared to motor on!

So sad what happened to such a grand old city. Now I too has a sad.
