The brouhaha over the shooting is ridiculous. OK, it sucks that the beast is dead, but it’s just an animal, sorry.

I don’t see how the Zoo had any choice. First, tranks don’t drop animals in their tracks, movies notwithstanding. Second, gorillas have no particular reason NOT to kill small humans. Third, you can’t REALLY wait till the gorilla is ABOUT TO hurt the kid to shoot.

But it’s tragic. We ruin their habitat, kill them outright for souvenirs, then imprison some of them in these cages for our own amusement, and even then we can’t leave them alone - we build enclosures that don’t keep us out, and then we have to kill one of them.
