re: #436 Obdicut
I grew up poor. The only advantage that I was handed was the fact that I am a white guy who grew up in a two parent household with strict (today would be considered abusive, but they were not) parents.
I distanced myself from the hoods; the druggies (four of my six main circle of friends are dead) did not want to live in a neighborhood like that for the rest of my life. Couldn’t afford college, but, didn’t have the academic skill to flourish (or survive) in a collegiate environment if I could have afforded it. Through a combination of sweat and, well, charm (willingness to give a (figurative!) blowjob to whoever could help me) I was out of my 3.30 per hour job within three years.
Frankly? I deserve to live in a nicer house and drive a nicer car than the stumbling alcoholics from the street that I grew up on and their hoodlum kids.
That’s my whole beef with this thing. My goggles are clouded with reality.
