Except that the banks played games with what people could afford; people didn’t understand how the ARMs worked, and the banks gamed the system to their advantage, so when the market crashed, the banks escaped scot free, while people were stuck being underwater on homes that weren’t worth nearly what was owed.

And I always interject, the realtors & mortgage brokers who were complicit & made huge commissions. They failed their clients spectacularly.
