My Slovenian born grandmother said [her] slender ankles were a mark of upperclassness, or something. She was always trying to make up for being married to a Polish renderer, seemingly, I say in far hindsight. She lived to age 99; she passed a few years ago.

/She also said, ‘Those Japanese people seem so nice. And so good at the gardening!’ I wish I was kidding, I’m sorry to quote her in public, may she rest in peace.

My mom’s grandmother was Slovenian too. Don’t know how she was built though since we have no photos of her. She was a complicated woman though. Very strict but she and my great grandfather was devoted to my grandfather’s sister who was mentally disabled.
