The management issue I’m not so sure about. Look at people like Marissa Mayer or Carly Fiorina.

The chain at my company goes:
Me
Manager
Manager
Director
VP
President/CEO

I definitely don’t see the skills set going up in such a way that the president makes a lot more than my manager. About the only reason they should make a lot more is if they have more risk for failing (which means I don’t believe in golden parachutes). The earnings for those positions should be asymptotic, especially since each level above my manager is really a manager of managers.
