Moreover, Hitchens has long been close friends with Salman Rushdie, and it was when the jihadists issued their murderous fatwa on his pal that Hitchens first began to really take a look at Islamic lunacy. In particular, he was less than impressed with the literary set which, even back then, seemed all too interested in “undersanding” what about Rushdie’s work was offensive to the Muslims.
