re: #38 engineer dog
as far as i can make out, american popular music has ground to a halt
there haven’t been any new genres since the 20th century, and i haven’t heard a great new tune in years
hip hop (as opposed to rap) is just bland, rap is over 30 years old, metal is even older
I know it looks like that to me often as well. But the entire entertainment industry is in transition. There’s a lot of cool indy movies and music around on the web but the old school studios and record labels are still churning out the same old tired crap while they go bankrupt. Even with tougher copyright laws it’s going to be really difficult to make money from movies and music. I suspect artists will produce and release their own product (it’s cheap enough now with the improvements in technology) but I suspect the money is going to mostly come from live performances and tours.
