I consider your characterization of conservatism overly broad. some conservatives do enjoy messing with liberals far too much, while these are some of the most vocal on the right they are representative of the whole or even most of conservatism.

We ain’t talking about you, since modern Conservatives would not consider you one of their own. Conservatism - which was never so much a principled position as simply a reaction against change - has now become just a reaction against a PERCEIVED enemy, “Liberalism”.
